Who We Are

Welcome to the North Olympic Sail and Power Squadron! What is NOSPS and what is the United States Power Squadron?

Organized in 1914, USPS is a non profit, educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable by teaching classes in seamanship, navigation and related subjects. Our members are boating families who contribute to their communities by promoting safe boating through education. We enjoy participating with our fellow members on the water and in the classroom. USPS has some 40,000 members organized into about 330 squadrons across the country and in some US territories. USPS is organized into 33 Districts. USPS is America's largest non-profit boating organization and has been honored by three US presidents for its civic contributions.

NOSPS is located on the North Olympic Peninsula in the State of Washington, about 60 miles NW of Seattle on the south shore of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. We are a member of District 16 of the USPS. Our activities involve the three primary objectives of USPS namely: community service, continuing education, and enjoying the friendship and camaraderie of our fellow members. The origins of NOSPS are chronicled in A Short History of NOSPS

USPS offers its members many benefits including discounts for boat insurance and computers as well as cruise vacations, hotel and car rentals as well as marine electronics and supplies. You will receive our national publication, The Ensign. Cruising out of your home area and looking for local knowledge, like where to find a good mechanic? Then contact a local Port Captain

Vessel Safety Checks are free of charge - a good way to make sure your vessel complies with federal and state safety requirements. Eventually all boaters in the state of Washington will have to pass an operators license test and carry a card. Our Basic Boating courses will fulfill that new state requirement, being taught by our certified boating instructors. To set up a free inspection, contact one of our vessel safety examiners.
